Salon filters

Active filters

All cars are fitted with a cabin filter to remove harmful components from the air. The impurities enter through the heating system, ventilation or air conditioning and then enter the airways - when the car is in motion.

Most drivers don't take this into account because they think it's not as important as an air filter, so they often don't change the cabin filter. This negligence can lead to mould and unpleasant odours in the cabin of the vehicle, which can cause health problems.

Variety of cabin filters and their functions

In every car, a cabin unit is located either inside the glove compartment or behind the cab's head panel. If it is located inside, you can replace it with your own hands. To do this, remove the fasteners and remove the part that holds it in place. If it is located under the dashboard, it is more difficult to change. To do this, you will need to dismantle the glove box and move it away from the seat, then pull it out from the edge. On some car models, this accessory is in a separate cartridge under the bonnet cover.

Advantages of different types of cabins

These filters protect passengers' airways during travel. There are two types of cabin filters:

1. Particulate filter (anti-allergenic). This is a particulate filter that traps coarse debris. It is similar in appearance and technology to the one used for the engine. It is a rectangular part made of cellulose or other vegetable fibres with a special paper sandwiched between them. The density of this paper is lower than that of its air-made counterpart. It absorbs dust and heavy metal components from the air. And when treated with chlorine, it is also effective against a wide range of bacteria.

2. Carbon. It is made of an artificial material that electrostatically traps all small particles up to 1 μm in size. It differs from conventional carbon in that it consists of several layers, including a layer of activated carbon that disinfects the air.

Before installing any of these models, you should thoroughly study their characteristics and drawbacks to consider which filter is more effective for your car.

Indicators of a clogged cabin filter

All manufacturers give different advice to the customer on the expiry date and replacement of their product. But how can you tell if a filter is clogged? Here are some external signs:

- foggy windscreen;

- Unusual, unpleasant odours (usually when a charcoal filter is fitted) are another reason to replace the filter;

- Abrupt temperature changes in the passenger compartment, e.g. overheating of panels in summer or a car heating system failure in winter;

- rapid contamination of the interior panel and glass.

Salon filter characteristics

The specific characteristics of this type of filter are:

1. Because we live in the southern regions, it needs to be changed more often, due to the high dust pollution compared to other regions.

2. the vehicle's filtration system is more prone to contamination in an urban environment due to the high levels of dust and other industrial reactants in the air. Animal droppings and small insects that get into the filter system on the roadside also shorten its life.

Another factor is the conditions in which the vehicle has been stored. For example, if the car has been sitting in a garage with little or no use, it may be time to change the filters yourself, having made sure that this is necessary beforehand.

Which cabin filter should I choose?

Sometimes every car owner may wonder which model to choose. For the passenger compartment, the best choice would be a good quality synthetic filter that does not absorb moisture. Otherwise, it can cause the windscreen to fog or freeze. A normal filter, on the other hand, protects the passenger compartment from dust, small insects, etc.. A carbon filter prevents exhaust fumes and fumes from harmful technical fluids from penetrating into the interior of the car. If you use a thicker filter, it can make your car suffocate.
